State Reporting and Compliance Manager
Alma is a K-12 Student Information System that empowers educators to work more effectively through time savings, data insights, and community connection between home and school.
We are looking for a State Reporting and Compliance Manager who is energized by a mission-driven environment, isn’t afraid to get into the weeds, has a continuous improvement mindset, and can make complex processes feel simple. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with K-12 data structures and data exchange, particularly in the context of state compliance reporting.
Responsibilities
STATE REPORTING DATA COMPLIANCE (~75% of role today; 50% long-term)
- Interpret state documentation to align compliance requirements with SIS data and identify new data collection needs.
- Engage with state education agencies to clarify requirements and ensure accurate implementation.
- Maintain detailed state-specific data dictionaries, including data types, validation rules, calculations, and error codes.
- Data architecture: identify opportunities for cross-state data structure reuse to enhance Alma’s core model.
- Create clear, user-friendly documentation and error messaging for Local Education Agencies (LEAs).
- Lead end-to-end reporting cycles: gather requirements, support builds, test, release, and train LEAs.
- Collaborate across Alma teams (Product, Engineering, Customer Success, Sales) and with school/district contacts to provide compliance guidance.
- Host support office hours, respond to support inquiries, and troubleshoot data/reporting issues directly.
TEAM MANAGER AND LEAD (~25% of role today; 50% long-term)
- Hire, train, and manage a small, effective team
- Develop and refine scalable processes and tools (including AI-assisted workflows) to streamline reporting operations.
- Coach and train analysts on organizing findings, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Identify system and communication improvements to boost data quality and team efficiency.
- Lead knowledge management: author SOPs for internal and external users on data structure and compliance protocols.
- Drive alignment on timelines, progress, and reporting deadlines across internal and external stakeholders.
Qualities / Experiences We Are Looking For

- Proven experience leading small teams.
- Deep expertise in state and federal K–12 compliance reporting (especially for: CA/CALPADS, PA/PIMS, IL/ISBE, OH/EMIS, IN/DEX, NH/iNHDEX, CO/Colorado Data Pipeline, CRDC).
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills in fast-paced environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex requirements clearly and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with SIS platforms and common data query methods.
- Facility with spreadsheets and word processing software such MS Excel and Word or Google Sheets and Docs
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience using AI tools (especially Retrieval-Augmented Generation) for document/data analysis.
- Familiarity with standards like Ed-Fi, SIF, and OneRoster.
- Prior experience as a district or state-level education data administrator.
- Experience with APIs, JSON, ETL processes, and tools like Postman.

Salary
Salary range is $75,000-$110,000.
